King Bhumibol Adulyadej or Rama IX, is the constitutional monarch of Thailand. Longest serving monarch in history, he ascended to throne on 9 June, 1946. He was born on December 5, 1927, to Prince and Princess Mahidol of Songkhla. He is the ninth king of the Chakri Dynasty. King’s Birthday has increasingly become a day of nationwide tribute to the man who is the most influential figure in modern Thai history. Most Thais have never known another sovereign.
